The 1st Imperial Legion, known as the Scarlet Fist, has been the highest military unit of the Realm since the destruction of the Empress' Own Guard in battle with the forces of Lookshy in RY89. They were amongst the first Legions founded by order of the Scarlet Empress as of RY40, tasked by Her with serving as garrison of the Imperial City from that year until they were replaced by the 4th Imperial Legion in RY768. It numbers amongst the 4 (once 5) Legions known as the Imperial Guard.

As City garrison, the 1st Legion was a key part of the forces tasked by the Empress with the slaughter of the Deliberative on the two occasions she felt the need to purge uncooperative politicians from the government.

When the Legion departed the Imperial City, they took with them the defensive artillery pieces and Legion records, leaving little of use for the 4th.
