Sub-Directorate of Brushes with Death

The Sub-Directorate of Brushes With Death is an office of the Division of Endings within the Bureau of Destiny, whose focus is on those who must come to the edge of death, to the brink of destruction. Not every near-miss is the responsibility of the Sub-Directorate, for not all things that almost kill are in fact brushes with death, and it remains an office of Endings… those who are meant to undergo such endings must come so close that arrogance and doubt and sense of invincibility are replaced with certainty that the end has come, and in that realization some aspect of their life or character (wealth or faith, virtue or flaw) must meet its end.
