Last Breath of Jerah

Last Breath of Jerah is a work of fiction written in the early centuries of the Scarlet Empire, in the style of a Shogunate Romance Novel. It tells the story of twin sisters born into the now-fallen House Jerah, whose rivalries in love and life unfold against the backdrop of the evil lord Jerah Eyem's plot to destroy the Scarlet Empress and the Realm. One of the sisters takes the noble, loyal path, working to do what is right and counter the evil machinations within the House, while the other delves into cruelty and villainy, happily joining the plot to gain wealth and power.

The novel ends with the object of both sisters' affections choosing the noble sister, causing the vile sister to slay him with poison... a misstep which provides evidence that can be presented to the Scarlet Empress to prove the plot, allowing her to awaken the Imperial Manse and wipe the whole of House Jerah from existence, including both sisters.

Though not explicitly banned, the nobles of the Scarlet Dynasty were not quick to embrace a story featuring a House purged by the Empress, and the novel soon fell into obscurity.
