Hakazashi

Hakazashi the Patriot's Talon is god of Patriotism within the Division of Governance in the Bureau of Heaven. In appearance Hakazashi takes the form of a huge, ferocious White Eagle, his talons clutching numerous sceptres and bolts of lightning.

Hakazashi is god of patriotic feelings, of pride in and devotion to one’s homeland in of itself rather than fealty to a master or bond to a family or tribe. While few mortals pray directly to the god of the concept, patriotism bolsters prayer to the City Gods and gods of nations where it is found, and those gods are indebted to Hakazashi for his aid. The more fervent and jingoistic the popular sentiment, the more prayer to nation gods, the more influence Hakazashi wields, and so the god expends great effort to ensure patriotic feelings are as chauvinistic as possible across all five Directions.

To this end, it is no surprise Hakazashi encourages conflicts between nations, for war is the greatest fuel to patriotic fervor. The Patriot’s Talon, however, goes even further: while some divinities might lobby the war gods to arrange conflicts, Hakazashi instead seeks to forment conflict between the nation gods themselves, so that their personal feuds will ensure far deeper, less controlled conflicts between the peoples of their purviews.
