The Inner Sea is the body of water stretching around the northern, eastern, and southern coasts of the Blessed Isle, dividing it from the Threshold. Its waters are not so vast and deep as those of the West, warmer and less salty than those more distant seas, fed as they are by the innumerable rivers of the Threshold including the great flows of the River Province, but they are still substantial, filled with an abundance of fish as well as the innumerable trading ships of Creation's major powers.

The stability of the Blessed Isle and the proximity of the Immaculate Order mean the Inner Sea is a far more stable and predictable place than are Western waters, but no sea is ever safe. Indeed, while the Imperial Navy and the naval forces of other powers mean there is little common piracy in the Sea, centuries of sailing traffic have accumulated innumerable sunken vessels and their dead, a fact which makes navigation during Calibration particularly dangerous in ways sailors of the West rarely face.
