In addition to a scenic location and source of certain hearthstones in PC & NPC hands, Qutang Gorge is presented here as an example of geomancy on the Blessed Isle, a landscape of strong essence flows capped with minor manses at regular intervals.

Also, Qutang Gorge is a real place, one of the Three Gorges along the Yangtze River. Several of the landmarks described here are to be found there.
