Luna is known as a wild and fickle divinity, but his course across the sky is regular, and a subject for study amongst occultists and the superstitious. Some hedge astrologers also pay attention to lunar movements, but these are poorly regarded by those of more professional bent, who know well that destinies are seen in the constellations without influence from Luna's face.

Phases of the Moon

The first day of every month is the day of the New Moon, when Luna is dark and barely visible in the night sky. From the 2nd to the 7th he waxes Crescent. On the 8th day of the month is the Half Moon (of the First Quarter), then from the 9th to the 14th he waxes Gibbous. On the 15th day he is Full, from the 16th to the 21st he wanes Gibbous, on the 22nd is the Half Moon (of the Third Quarter), from the 23rd to 28th he wanes Crescent.

Names of the Full Moon

Each month has a full moon, and each of these moons is known by a poetic name. Several of these names tend to relate to visual variations in Luna's appearance (ex: the Green Moon has a slight greenish tinge, the Shimmering Moon seems ephemeral and dreamlike, etc).

While the Immaculate Order teaches that Luna's regular pattern shows that even the wildest of the Incarna does their duty with diligence, he is not always so predictably dutiful. In addition to the regular occurrences, Luna's face is also subject to a random element which occurs unpredictably, thought by some to be an ill omen. The phenomenon is called the Moonshadow by some, the Blood Moon by others, for the face of Luna becomes shadowy red for a few hours.
