Desert Horse

The Southern Horse, or Desert Horse, is perhaps one of the best regarded breeds in Creation. Though not the largest, at between 14 and 15-and-a-half hands in height, it is densely muscled, capable of incredible speed and endurance, and known for loyalty and gentle nature towards riders it has come to respect. The best breeding stock comes from the nomadic horse tribes such as the Delzahn, who treat their horses as friends and members of their families, sharing their tents and limited water freely with them. They are found elsewhere in Creation as well, highly sought for racing, messenger duty, drawing chariots, and as light cavalry steeds carrying lancers, archers, and mounted medium infantry, as well as by aristocratic equestrians who favour their beauty and refinement.

Though the horse tribes themselves abhor such a sin, Southern Horses feature prominently in the culinary traditions of rival tribes.

The Horse Market of Chiaroscuro, outside the city walls, is often visited by buyers serving Creation's wealthy, seeking the best horses to bring home to their masters. A number of prized breeds are derived from Desert Horse stock, including the famed Firemanes of Cloaka.
