Maizemasa, Count of the Cob, is the god of Corn, serving in the Ever-Fruiting Council of Grains within the Bureau of Humanity, under Ovin-Bareth the Prince of Grains. He has the appearance of a young man, with bright yellow skin, with a black line tracing down either cheek beneath a heavy headdress of Orichalcum shaped as ears of corn.

He is an ambitious god, having made many allies and enemies in Heaven as he attempts to displace other grains such as Wheat and Rice (with whose goddess Mochinari he has a particularly heated rivalry). Maizemasa has recently entered into an alliance with Ahlat, God of Southern War and Cattle, with hardier varieties of corn now encouraged as feed for the cows amongst the herding tribes of Harborhead and the Southeastern savannas.

Maizemasa is worshipped by many cultures where corn is a staple crop, particularly in the Northeast, the Southeast, and the Scavenger Lands. He does not pretend at any adherence to the Immaculate Order’s Perfected Hierarchy, openly encouraging his own cult and causing bountiful harvests for those who provide him with prayer. Maizemasa’s priests seek to take charge in the villages and kingdoms where the corn harvest dominates, establishing strict theocratic regimes where intoxicants and amusement are condemned in favour of devoted work planting, harvesting, and preparing corn, as well as providing worship to Maizemasa. The god’s cult holds that he is the son of the Unconquered Sun by Gaia (who also receive significant prayer from his cult, perhaps in hope of gaining their support for his activities), and that humanity itself sprang into being from corn seeds he had planted.
