The term 'phoenix' is widely used across Creation's populace to refer to fiery birds born or reincarnated of fire. Birds and spirits such as the Fenhuan, Garda Bird, and even Flame Duck are all referred to by many peasants as 'phoenixes'.

Those more knowledgeable in the Occult and the Southern deserts know that the true Phoenix is the godblooded offspring of a fire elemental and a Fenhuan bird. Such birds, while rare, are numerous enough to persist as a separate bird species, which can breed true.

A phoenix has plumage of flame, though this is not as hot to the touch as would be expected. They consume mostly sand, not seeming to require other nourishment. Their life cycle and reproduction mirror that of the Fenhuan, save that in order to release their incubated egg a phoenix does not seek out an existing fire but rather self-immolates to release the egg from its body, allowing it to hatch a new phoenix.
