Description: The aegris is a small, six-limbed creature covered in short fur, somewhat resembling an Ermine, found in the tundras of the far North, though it is rare even in this range. It is omnivorous, though quite resistant to cold and privation, often establishing burrows in packed snow. Sometimes it is hunted for food by local tribespeople, sometimes by traders for its fur.

The aegris is, however, far more than it would appear. The creature was bred during the First Age, as a simple defense mechanism against elementals and demons, by a paranoid Celestial Exalt whose manse-fortress was located in the far reaches of the barren North. When an Aegris spots a summoned spirit, it leaps at its enemy and grasps it, destroying itself in a burst of emerald light. The Aegris makes an opposed willpower roll with the target. If the target wins, the aegris perishes without effect, but if the aegris wins it prematurely shatters the bonds of summoning and returns the spirit to its home.

This strange power would be of significant use to the Scavenger Lords of the present era, facing demon-filled tombs, making the aegris much sought after... if anyone in this age remembered their true capabilities. Given how unlikely a savant with summoned entourage is to be found on the far northern tundras, it is unlikely to be re-discovered for some time.
