Wine may mean:

--- Grape Wine: an alcoholic beverage derived from grapes.

--- Rice Wine: alcoholic beverages derived from Rice grains.

--- Fruit Wine: alcoholic beverage derived from various fruits or berries.

In the present day, and in the language of Old Realm, the term 'wine' refers to the beverage Grape Wine, made from the fermentation of grapes. However, several Gentes battle-tongues and Solar Deliberative Military Cants of the First Age chose to use the term as root for a term referring more generally to alcoholic beverages, particularly Rice Wine. This became most prevalent in the Shogunate Era, where the term 'wine' in the Dragonspeak language was assumed to refer to rice wine, grape wine less prevalent as grape vineyards were far less numerous. Though the language of High Realm descends directly from Dragonspeak, in the modern era 'wine' has returned to mainly referring to grape-based beverages (despite the efforts of certain factions), the severe depopulation and upheaval of the Blessed Isle in the Great Contagion opening lands formerly used for Rice agriculture to now bear vast vineyards supplying wine to the scions of the Scarlet Dynasty, Patrician Clans, and Threshold nobility.
