Heavenly Reed was a calligrapher and brushwork artist of the Shogunate Era, considered one of the Five Paragons of the Shogunate or Five Banished Immortals, styled Banished Mercury, though no such titles are referenced in texts which pass through the censors of the Realm and the Immaculate Order.

Heavenly Reed is said to have been a calligrapher of peerless talent, though his perfect works were few in number. No known examples of his work have survived into the present age, with some historians believing his work might be rediscovered through now-lost carved characters in the ruins of the Imperial Mountain, and a few holding that a worn character on the Stroking Wall was his work.

Reed was mentor to several other noted Shogunate Era calligraphers, including Ruan Okura.
