The god Black Quarry is City Father of the city of Gem. His city is wealthy and energetic, and many would expect its spirit to reflect this, the picture of health wrapped in gem-encrusted fineries... such people are inevitably surprised by the reality.
Black Quarry instead takes the shape of a man, thin and haggard, his skin of black glass run through with smoky cracks, his unkept hair and stubbled beard splinters of broken gemstone, his gritted teeth polished Silver. His sunken fool’s gold eyes dart back and forth nervously wherever he might be, and when he speaks his voice cracks with panic and despair.
The god of Gem is plagued by a constant torrent of visions in which he witnesses the destruction of his city, each cause different from the last. This has left the spirit gripped with paranioa, distrustful and quick to perceive conspiracies all around him. This surely is not helped by the fact that some say Amoth City-Smiter pays frequent visits to the office of Black Quarry, to discuss matters of ‘mutual interest’, which does nothing to aid his paranoid disposition. And yet, his terror that anything might destroy his city means his paperwork is amongst the best and most complete of any of the gods in the Bureau of Humanity... it is perhaps not unrelated that his superior Biriketh, Lady of the Generous Waters, has yet to take any action to halt Amoth’s calls upon her subordinate.
