A quartz vial is a thick, semi-opaque vial carved from a single piece of alchemically-fortified Clear Quartz, which was sometimes used during the late Shogunate Era for creating Plug Circuits to store Liquid Gemstone, by forces too distant to obtain Omphalic Glass from the Blessed Isle.

Though the Seventh Legion of Lookshy had significant stockpiles, bolstered by quantities seized and scavenged across the River Province, tensions with the Scarlet Empire meant securing new Omphalic Glass became increasingly difficult. In RY403, the decision was made to reserve Omphailc Glass Plug Circuits for the most vital equipment, replacing it with Quartz Vials for equipment in the field. While quartz is inferior to Omphalic Glass for such Plugs, burning out more quickly, some in Lookshy hold that this constant need for maintenance has provided additional benefits, ensuring that Seventh Legion technicians have ample opportunity to train their skills with Magitech systems.
