The Sevenfold Dishes are the elaborate foods which stand as centrepieces of the most important celebration feasts in Dynastic society, and are said to have been favoured by the Empress herself, who set the master chefs of the Imperial Palace to their perfection. Each dish is drawn from one of the seven Great Schools of cooking, and together they present a culinary tapestry that crosses all of Creation in ingredients and flavours.
Powdered Gold and Minced Jade: Southeastern School dish, containing sliced fish mixed with orange
Desert Boat sails on Green: Southern School dish of camels' feet simmered with rape hearts or cabbage.
Mother and Children get Together: A dish of Dynastic style (sometimes called 'Central School Cuisine'), consisting of a quail and its eggs cooked together.
Palm Controls the Land: A Northern School dish containing chicken cooked with bear's paw.
Leaves of Wind, Frost and Snow: an ancient dish (from what is sometimes called the 'Seventh Shogun School') of shrimp, sliced tender bamboo shoots and mushrooms.
Butterflies Swarm the Peonies: a dish of the Eastern School, made from sea cucumber, prawns, white fungus, and water chestnuts.
The Conqueror says Goodbye to his Concubine: a dish of the Western School, consisting of fowl and soft-shelled turtle.
