The Gem of Ideal Travel is an iridescent stone, hexagonal in shape, whose colour seems to shift from red through purples and blues to white, depending on the angle at which light strikes it.
The Gem allows the bearer to walk safely over surfaces which normally would not support any movement, so long as they are generally horizontal or gradually inclined… rather than the bearer’s feet touching the physical surface beneath them, they touch the ideal of a plane as perceived by an observer. Thus the bearer is able to walk over water, lava, mud, ice, quicksand, on top of a field of grain, or even atop solid-looking thick smoke. The bearer can move over these surfaces without injury, slowed movement or an increased chance of slipping or falling. However, the Gem does not allow the bearer to walk over surfaces which do not give the APPEARANCE of a solid surface: mist, sea spray, air. Nor can the bearer climb or move vertically or upside-down (such as along walls and ceilings, or ascending a vertical column of smoke).
