Padron peppers are small green peppers, roughly the size of a thumb, originating on the Inner Sea coast of the Southern Threshold.
Padron peppers are popular in the cuisine of the Lap and have been adopted on the Blessed Isle as well. There, they are typically fried in olive oil, salted, and served as hors d'oeuvres or accompaniment for drinking binges amongst those Dynasts (primarily Cathak & Ledaal) with Southern holdings. The average pepper is sweet, their salted exteriors providing a welcome contrast, but a minority (tradition holds one of every five) are intensely spicy... it is something of a gambling game to dine on them, risking the heat and attempting to conceal one’s reaction if one is found, while attempting to guess which of one’s dining companions has suffered the misfortune of a burning mouthful. Normally the peppers are cooked with their stems, but the stems are not eaten.
