The Fortress of Solitary Contemplation is a manse entrusted to House Cathak, located in the Scarlet Prefecture just to the south of Sentinel's Hearth. It is home to the reclusive sorcerer-artificer Cathak Adlai, whose privacy is enforced by a cadre of private mercenaries.


The fortress consists of a cylindrical tower of blue-grey stone, its ground floor smooth and featureless xsave for a single keyhole-shaped gate of steel and bronze. The interior of the tower is almost entirely an open courtyard. The second floor is circled by large windows of latticed blue adamantine glass framed in steel, and contains the few closed chambers of the manse as well as balconies for viewing the courtyard. The third and fourth floors are both nothing more than circling balconies linked by steel staircases, the third with large slits in the outer wall affording excellent firing positions on those approaching from below. The large opening atop the tower is usually left open, but can be covered by a tied expanse of blue silk which lets air flow around its edges. The silk cover currently in use displays an embroidered representation of the House Cathak mon .
