Dynastic Houses exist at the whim of the Scarlet Empress, and may be stripped of their status for a number of reasons.

When this is done, it can be violent, the House declared traitors. Their members become the worst form of Disenfranchised and are all deemed Traitors to the Realm, anyone from Dynast to peasant able to kill them at a whim without consequence... in fact another Disenfranchised who slays a member of a Fallen House is rewarded by elevation to patrician status.

Houses do not always fall actively, however... while House Manosque and House Morigaturqi were put to the sword in a matter of days following the Empress casting them down, other Houses are dissolved... some such as House Kurosa declared dissolved by the Empress for failing to make good on their financial obligations to the Throne, others like House Shi declare themselves at an end willingly when it becomes impossible to deny that they are fading. House Iselsi was stripped of all its holdings, its Dynasts forced to dedicate themselves to the direct service of the Empress as penance for an attempted coup, a state which lasted for two centuries before they were finally declared Fallen (and their members subjected to the harshest penalties).

Through the history of the Scarlet Empire, in one way or another, thirteen Houses have Fallen.
