Breed Origin Appearance Features
Starlight Mastiff Lord’s Crossing Black fur, broad chests, long legs, small ears The most prized guard dogs in Creation, whose exact breeding remains secret. Owners must be carefully introduced to a dog before taking possession, as it reacts to strangers with savage aggression.
Whitecloud Lapdog Lord’s Crossing Long white silky fur, bird-like cries, multicoloured eyes Dogs whose exact breeding remains secret. Eyes change colour according to their moods
Moonlit Hound Pangu Short, silver-sheen fur, long legs, thin Dogs whose exact breeding remains secret. An excellent breed of hunting hound.
Greenfang Mastiff Cherak White fur, broad chests, long legs, small ears Resistant to Quat. A breed of normal canines and omen dogs used to guard the slave-farms of Cherak and hunt escaping slaves. Their fangs, like the rest of their bodies, are not green: this name was given them because the use of the drug quat on slaves stains their lips geen, and the Mastiff has a habit of devouring those it is set to track.
Brushwood Pangu, Juche Light brown with white necks and bellies, medium-large size. Loyal, goal-oriented dogs used for hunting and guard duty. Dominant personalities require an equally dominant master. Naturally favour cleanliness
Sheperd Hound Widespread Mottled white and black, medium size, long fur and snout. Common breed in use by peasants who must herd large numbers of livestock. Often trained to bark and nip at such beasts in order to guide them, and to sound the alarm if approaching predators are seen, though these have been bred-in partially as natural tendencies.
Shar-Pei Lord’s Crossing Light brown fur, large head, wrinkled skin Stubborn and domineering if not properly trained. Ineffective fighters, more useful as ‘display dogs’.
Red Setter Eastern Threshold, Juche Rich, lustrous red fur. A bird hunting dog, with an excellent ability to retrieve fowl shot by a huntsman’s arrows.
Greyhound Juche Short grey fur, long thin legs and body A hunting dog which is both swift and maneuverable, well suited to hunting game such as rodents or small animals in open fields. Excellent eyesight.
Sausage Hound Juche Short legs, long ears and snout, cylindrical body Bred specifically for hunting tunnelling rodents, this hound has an excellent sense of smell and ability to crawl through tight spaces in pursuit of quarry
Chihuahua Gem Tiny dog, with short fur of light colour A loud but dainty lap dog
Terrier River Province Small dog, brown-black curly fur Hot-headed lap dog, with a watchful attitude that makes it well suited as a warning alarm
Grey Wolf Northern Threshold thick, coarse grey-white fur, plumed tail, blue eyes. Feral. Resistant to cold. Prone to obesity if given access to too much nourishment. Excellent eyesight.
Forest Wolf Eastern Threshold thick, coarse red-brown fur, plumed tail, dark eyes. Feral. Excellent hearing and sense of smell. Prone to obesity if given access to too much nourishment.
Eight-Tailed Mole Hound Southern Deserts Grey to brown fur tones, tinged with white. Hard, stone-like armoured plates over face and back. Eight tails. Feral. Can tunnel through loose sand, slightly melodic howling.
Omen Dog Northeastern Threshold Long legs, small ears, broad chests, height up to 4 feet at the shoulder, oversized teeth. Feral. Ferocious and aggressive, one can take down a war horse while packs can overcome whole caravans.
Gravehound Sijian Ash-grey, thin and cadaverous. Heightened sense of smell and hearing. Immunity to several corpse-borne diseases. Said to be able to sense the presence of ghosts, and touch them as if material.
Brine Cur Western Ocean Grey, kelp-like fur, fins instead of legs, and seven tongues. SPIRIT: ELEMENTAL. Salt water elemental. Not too bright. Perish after absence from the sea for any longer than a day.
Matyr Malfeas Black hound, surrounded by a thick dark fog that blots out the light of the moon and stars. SPIRIT: DEMON. Extremely fast, and moves only at night. Sense of smell is highly effective, making it an ideal tracker, though it is difficult to rouse while the sun sits in the sky.
