A Gem of White Heat is a transculent red-orange dodecahedron, which contains within it energies nearly identical to that of a Fire-aspected Dragonblooded's anima flux. Its power works just like the anima banner of such an Exalt, based on the number of motes the user expends.

Motes expended this scene Effect
1 to 3 None.
4 to 7 A flickering, obvious aura of flame. Stealth charms auto-fail
8 to 10 Brighter flame, enough light to read, inflicts 1L* per min everything within [Essence] yards (except vs targets that soak L with Stamina). All stealth impossible.
11 to 15 Visible for miles. Inflicts 1L* per 9 ticks within [Essence] yards (except vs targets that soak L with Stamina).
16+ Massive corona of flame burning brightly (though this flame lacks the iconic imagery seen in some true anima banners). Inflicts 1L* per tick within [Essence] yards.

  • Note that Terrestrial Anima Flux, and thus this hearthstone, inflict ping damage after Soak.

The user and their personal equipment are immune to the damage from the Gem's anima flux. If the user is a Fire-aspect Dragonblood, the damage from the Gem-created flux stacks with that of their own anima flux, otherwise it is in addition to any effects from the user's anima banner (if any).

Gems of the White Heat are not well regarded by the Immaculate Order due to their ability to replicate the anima of the Exalted. On the Blessed Isle, the Order ensures all such hearthstones are in its hands or those of House Cathak or House Mnemon, monks believing the only rightful users are those already blessed by Hesiesh. In the Threshold, the stones are highly valuable amongst Godblooded, enlightened mortals, and the Anathema as they can be used to pretend at being Dragonblooded in order to avoid attention from the Wyld Hunt. In preceding centuries, Lunar agents have made use of one such stone held in the Bordermarches of the South to infiltrate the Blessed Isle itself when a pressing need arose.
