This dull-surfaced reddish stone glows with a soft orange light, resembling a hot coal drawn out of a fire. Found across Creation, these stones are known as Ignition Gems or Ember Stones.

An Ignition Gem possesses a number of innate powers which are active even if its bearer is not attuned to the stone: the Gem emits about the same level of heat as a hot water bottle. This warmth provides no direct mechanical benefit, but can be quite pleasant in cold climates, and is present even if no one is attuned to the stone. In addition, this stone enables its bearer (attuned or not) to ignite any flammable material simply by touching it with the stone and willing it to ignite while rubbing it or breathing on it gently, producing a brief spark of magical flame. Fires lit by an Ignition Gem in this manner are not magical, and can be extinguished normally.

In the hands of one who can channel essence, the Ignition Gem becomes more potent. For an expenditure of one mote per hour (the fire is fed by essence, not fuel), an attuned bearer of the stone can place it on the ground and cause it to burst into flame, growing into a fire one yard in diameter. This fire can keep up to five individuals warm and dry even in heavy rains or frigid blizzards, granting each a +3 bonus to resist cold and wet environmental effects so long as they remain next to the fire. The bearer can snuff out the fire with a thought.
