In the First Age, Yagan was a large metropolis of the Northeast. Buildings were all constructed according to a set of aesthetic laws: for the first 60ft, buildings are formed of limestone, and from any seeking to go higher towers of [[Adamantine Glass]] rose up in all the colours of the rainbow. On the [[Golden Leaf Canal]] and the River of Golden Branches , Yagan was a city of industry, exporting [[Adamantine Glass]] across the North and East. But the Usurpation caused disaster for the city: while its own Solar lord was absent, its labour force had been bolstered by massive numbers of Fair Folk slaves, making up over 30% of the total population. When the Solar-driven mechanisms keeping those Fae enslaved were broken, they took terrible vengeance upon mortal resident and Dragonblooded Usurper alike. Where the towers of [[Chiaroscuro]] were shattered and melted, those of Yagan saw many of their bases destroyed, which sent towers topping over to crash against each other. The Fae then scattered into the surrounding woods, and the Shogunate had great difficulty in clearing them out to regain control of Yagan, leaving the still-standing towers (amounting to nearly half the total) from returning to their former prosperity. The Contagion and Fae Invasion wiped out the Shogunate population of Yagan… no survivors are found in accounts of the refugees who would go on to form the states of [[Halta]] and [[Linowa]].

The ruins of Yagan are on the forest floor beneath [[Halta]], in the midst of [[Sluluru's Domain]]. Ancient First Age wards in the soil keep the area surrounding it free of trees, though from the branches one can obtain spectacular views of its glass spires.

Sluluru himself has declared the city his capital, and has gathered his finest craftsmen to produce gossamer and glass goods for trade with the Haltans. The quality of such goods is high, their rarity making them even more valuable in mortal markets, but the Fae do not build on an industrial scale. They trade only with the [[Halta]]ns, and occasion the lesser states of [[Soja]], [[Shandir Woods]], [[Ascending Spruce]], and [[Fenta]], depending on their whims. Traders from [[The Guild]], [[Linowa]], or other foreign states find that the Fae of Yagan show no mercy towards them. When mortals are allowed into the city, they are permitted to trade at its exotic market or engage in diplomacy at Sluluru’s court, but not to engage in study or archaeology.

A trade road crosses the treeless expanse between the city and the Haltan settlement of Glorious Crown. Traders from both sides move regularly between the two settlements.
