A Shimmering Pool is a decorative feature found occasionally in the gardens and palaces of the [[Scarlet Dynasty]] and Threshold nobility. The simplest Shimmering Pools are simply small basins, urns, or [[Marble]] pools filled not with water but with silvery [[Quicksilver]]. Such a substance delivers the shimmer of the [[Most High]]'s light upon water far more consistently than water itself, with a rarity that demonstrates wealth and power. The most extravagant Shimmering Pools include fountains, producing an eternal silver cascade do delight onlookers.

Some gardens and chambers incorporate Shimmering Pools to serve as the water in vast maps laid out upon the floors, liquid to mark seas and rivers without evaporation.
