To Read Motivation, a character must spend several minutes (five or more long ticks, -2 MDV) observing and interacting with a target to try and gain information on their mood or personality.

This process proceeds as per the rules on page 131 of the Exalted 2nd Edition core book, with the following exceptions:

- The difficulty is equal to the target’s lowest applicable MDV during the time the action is carried out.
