The Crested Ember Tanager is a small bird native to a small band of the coastal South, in the scrubland and light woods around [[Chiaroscuro]]. Males are mostly black with a distinct crest of red surrounded by orange-yellow, matched by a narrow yellow-orange throat stripe. The female has more muted plumage, grey towards the head becoming shades of brown across the wings and belly, without the distinctive crest of the male.

The diet of the Crested Ember Tanager is primarily insects, though they will also consume fruit, berries, and seeds.
