The 5th Imperial Legion was amongst the first Legions founded by order of the Scarlet Empress as of RY40. It numbered amongst the 4 (once 5) Legions known as the Imperial Guard.

For much of its history it has served as a garrison force, based out of the [[Citadel of Purifying Flame]] in the [[Scarlet Prefecture]], though it was frequently deployed against the foes of the Realm, including in the campaign against Lookshy in RY88 and the war against the Anathema Jochim, where 5th Legion forces under the Wind Dancer general Tepet Arada brought the Anathema to heel and slew him.

In recent decades, the 5th had come to be dominated by officers from House Tepet. The Legion's last conflict saw it deployed in full into the [[War with the Bull]], where it was destroyed beyond recovery. Its surviving assets were absorbed by the [[9th Imperial Legion]] and its general Arada retired into the Immaculate Order in great disgrace.
